Makiko Ogawa is a licensed speech-language pathologist, bilingual in English and Japanese. After working with different populations in different settings, such as private and public schools, hospitals, home health, private clinics and early intervention programs, Makiko has finally found her clinical passion: Working with the children with deafness and hard-of-hearing (D/HH). Since 2022, Makiko has been working toward attaining the LSL certification in auditory verbal therapy (LSLS cert. AVT) through A.G. Bell Academy.
Before moving to the Pacific Northwest area in August 2024, Makiko founded Seabird Clinic for Speaking and Hearing, which was the first and the only speech-language clinic dedicated to the D/HH children in the state of Hawai’i . She worked intensely with infants, toddlers and school-aged children with deafness and hard-of-hearing. She is actively involved in the Hawai’i professional community, serving as the director of Educational Affairs of Hawai’i Speech, Language and Hearing Association (HSHA) and the co-chair of the AG Bell Hawai’i chapter, as well as a part-time clinical instructor for University of Hawai’i Communication Science and Disorder graduate program.
When not working, Makiko enjoys spending time with her family. She loves cooking and visiting the aquarium, zoo, and museum. Most of all, Makiko loves meeting and talking to new people through a variety of different activities!
